As far as digital devices go, specifically splitting between photos and videos seem to invite the mess we created when we restricted (via implications) pants_down to only pants (forum #167496). Plus it's left us without a clear, convenient tag for actual digital photos being taken. The closest there is is the photo tag, which is a complete mess mixing stuff that could/should be in 3 or 4 different tags.

I would agree with Tuvalu. This should be left alone.

It seems like most of camera_view is recording, but there are a few ambiguous camera (photos) present which makes the implication slightly tricky.

However, since 99% of both tags are related to video recording, I'm starting to think we should do a reverse alias instead (using camera_view as a more neutral term). Bonus is that this fits better with the rest of the *_view tags.

Denied for that reason. Look at all the cameras with either a photo mode or simply no visible evidence of recording (like the text REC):
