Topic: Tags for colored nails.

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

All these tags appear to have the same use, and some are somewhat widely used.

On top of these, we have colors: black_nails, red_nails, green_nails, etc.

I'm proposing aliasing all the first group of tags to colored_nails. While colored_nails is already aliased to polished_nails, I think colored nails is a better tag for it since the nails might naturally be abnormally colored rather than the result of using nail polish.

If the <color>_nails tags are worth keeping, they can then be implicated to colored_nails, or whatever the decided target is.

Honestly, I think [color]_nails is unnecessary. Who really searches or blacklists individual colors of nails?

Yeah I definitely don't think we need the clutter from individually-tagged nail colors.

I agree it's unnesessary, but apparently some people think otherwise. Who's ever going to search or blacklist purple_anus either?

Stuff like this can be marginally helpful for locating cropped pictures or when trying to recall one from memory (assuming they are actually tagged with it).

Not saying that's a valid reason to keep them.

I'm more inclined to keep the colored body part tags as long as the body part in question is widely tagged (i.e., blue_anus but not beige_arm).

Exactly. This is my viewpoint on all [color]_[noun] tags. If they're not popular (I'd say 20 tags or more is popular), then alias it to colored_[noun]. Otherwise, implicate it to colored_[noun].

Maybe we should write a wiki page on precedents/syntaxes being set for tag management.

You know, I wish there was some way to merge the [color]_claws with the [color]_nails tags, to tag the colors for both with one set of color tags. Because they're basically the same thing, except for shape and having two sets of this seems redundant. We already have the separate tags claws and nails for tagging the shape difference so I don't think the color_* tag for them needs to be so specific. Also there's a lot of images where it's unclear if that's a pointy nail vs a short claw, which makes when to use blue_claws vs blue_nails unnecessarily tricky. But I've never come up with any suggest-worthy idea for merging those unless we just pick one [color]_[nails/claws] version to go with.

But anyways, +1 to the OP's suggestions.

Also I don't think these color tags are unnecessary when they can narrow down searches when trying to find a specific character or relocating an image. Especially when nothing is a normal color when it comes to furries. I think it's also important to keep in mind that one of the biggest things people find useful about e621 is the fact that you can search specifically for something and actually find it. Hell, I have seen otherwise haters grudgingly praise us for that, as one of the only reasons they will still use our site. So that ability alone carries a lot of value for people, fans and haters alike. Tags like [color]_[nail/claw] probably aren't vital, that's true. But I have used them a handful of times in various searches, so I suspect other people may find them useful sometimes as well. I see no reason to invalidate them, especially if we can consolidate them down into one set. /two cents
