Not sure why it was named that.
Procyon is a genus, and doesn't cover the all species listed in the wiki.

Procyonid would be more accurate, that's the same level of taxonomy that we usually use (feline, canine, ursine, etc).

Raccoons also fall under that category. Should they be implied into the Procyon/"procyonid" tag?

Absolutely.

Both Procyon and Procynoid include raccoons. The difference is that the former only includes raccoons, while the latter includes the whole family (raccoons and related species). Same difference as Canis (dogs, wolves) and Canine (dogs, wolves, foxes, raccoon dogs, etc).

...dunno if I'm explaining this well. Probably not.

It could be implied as Raccoons → Procyon → procyonidae → mammal. That's what the source link tells me anyway.

While that would be accurate, I don't think we've ever tagged genus. As an example, here's what the same chain would look like for lions: Lion -> Panthera -> Feline -> Mammal.

Yeah, it would create one redundant tag that can just be left in the wiki for those eager to learn.
