I was searching for smuttysquid name on e621, but found nothing. Why was it not there, did she say or do something controversial?

That make sense, but was she removed because she was controversial?
When an artist issues a DNP, and their art is wiped off of the site, do the posters get penalised for the deletions?

It was done on the artist's request.

Yes.
That said, if your upload limit had been significantly affected, you could contact an admin and ask them to fix it.

am back now and all the stuff i had pulled has been put back up!

You should get yourself verified, so that your account gets officially linked your artist tag.

The auto moderator for some reason has actually added it to some posts in response to the DNP being removed. EX: https://e621.net/post_versions?search%5Bpost_id%5D=1425965
Edit: I made a null edit to one of the affected posts to see if the tag would automatically get removed. It does not get removed.
I've gone ahead and reported the auto moderator so this gets handled properly.

This is still an issue. Any chance someone with the correct privileges could correct this? I'd do it myself but avoid_posting is locked.

Idk when this changed, but that search currently turns up no posts, deleted or otherwise.

Looks like someone went in the db manually and fixed it. If you look at the edit history, the +avoid_posting is added as locked in the latest edit. No user removed the tag, yet it doesn't exist on the posts anymore.
