Topic: First time posting to e621, confused on a few things

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Everything seems fairly straightforward with uploading, but like the title says, I'm confused on a few things.

I'm trying to add artist name to my most recent submission, but it just registers as a general tag instead of an artist tag. I look to the upload guide but I'm still unsure how to make the name of the artist an actual artist tag. Do I just need to wait and upload more stuff before I get a tag?

It's my own art, and I don't see how to add the self-upload tag as it says it's invalid.

I go by a few different names on different websites, how would one go about navigating the artist tags with this?

(A more general question is that I can't seem to upload the picture I want to use as my pfp, what am I doing wrong?)

It might seem complicated at first (like a lot on this site), but it's fairly straight forward, once you know what to do.

There are three different methods presented here on how to change the tag category:
https://e621.net/wiki_pages/11250#catchange

Since you already created the tag, you will need to use either method 1 or 2 (though both are more or less the same)

We don't have a tag for that here

If you want to combine multiple names into one you can use a bulk update request

Only existing posts can be used as avatars, you cannot just freely upload an image as an avatar

Like Donovan said, there is not really a tag for that.
What you can do however is get the artist tag linked with your e621 account:
https://e621.net/help/staff#verification
Your own uploads will receive a small checkmark next to your artist tag.

That is because you did not specify the new tag's category type upon uploading, resulting in it being defaulted to a general tag.
Please refer to the pinned topic #23553 or the link in @SNEDMANO's comment above to learn how to change an existing tag's category.

It's my own art, and I don't see how to add the self-upload tag as it says it's invalid.

The self_upload tag it not a valid tag to use as it violates our Tag What You See policy and serves no functional purpose at all to describe the contents of the artwork.

Artists are already credited through their own artist tags.
Self-uploading artists who verifies themselves can get a special checkmark displayed next to their artist tags whenever they upload.

I go by a few different names on different websites, how would one go about navigating the artist tags with this?

Once you have created an artist tag, you will gain access to an artist wiki that will become attached to the tag.
The artist wiki may be freely edited by you to include any known aliases/names as well as links to your galleries.

If you want all of those names to be attached/redirected to one specific artist tag, you will need to use the request tag alias feature (for one name) or the Bulk Update Request (BUR) (for multiple names).
E.g., The main name/artist tag could be XXX while the alternate name/alias could be XXX_arts, you would then request for XXX_arts to be aliased to XXX.

We don't have that function for uploading custom profile pictures. You may only use existing posts here as your profile picture.

Be mindful that you are not allowed to randomly upload crops or irrelevant images here for the sole purpose of using it as your profile picture.
All uploads must adhere to the Uploading Guidelines, like with any artwork you would upload here.

I meannnn, that's not really a valid reason to not have it
It would definitely be meta which isn't really subject to TWYS
I'd argue we don't have it because it just isn't a useful tag

also we already have artverified:true which effectively serves the same function.

It's also a bad idea for importing purposes. It should really be an automatic tag or in this case, metatag (Artverified:true).
