Topic: Can We Crack Down On Baseless AI Accusations? Please?

Posted under General

It's getting infuriating to look at an image and see 6-7 'This is CLEARLY AI!' comments, but no one has given any evidence or flagged the image in question.
The people just accuse the artist and move on to accuse the next one. Which is a GREAT way to alienate real artists, BTW. No one wants to bust their hump drawing and then being accused of shortcutting by a witchunt looking for moral brownie points.

I honestly think baseless accusations in the comments should be an auto red-flag warning, at this point.
Because the 'Anti AI' crowd don't want to be RIGHT. They just want to feel good that they 'revealed another AI user' so they can pat themselves on the back.

Because what new artists are not going to want to post here, just to see 'Rabble! Rabble! Rabble! This is your first time posting?! That means it's (somehow) your first time ever drawing! AI!'
Or 'The eyes might maybe kind of look maybe weird if I take off my glasses and squint while standing on my head after downing 17 beers! AI!'
Or 'The jizz looks like plastic! There's no way you'd draw it that way for any reason, like personal skill or preference! AI!' (And yes; A recent AI accusation I saw was indeed 'The jizz looks plastic.' The fuck?)

There is no rule specifically against accusing artists of using AI but if you think people are doing so disruptively you can report the comments and cite rule 1.1.

You can report a post in order to point at a widespread problem in the comment section, then the powers that be can take a closer look at each one individually. I imagine some might come from serial offenders.

I'm not even sure on post #6089060. We're guessing it's an AI accusation in the comments. For a first post, that has to be damn frustrating, even if it was true. No explanation other than 'uploading guidelines' and bam, rejected.

:edit:
Actually, it's one of several possible reasons people thought of. I was pointing out that we just don't know.

:edit:
Thank you, Manitka! At least now we know why.

Nothing might call it out specifically but a lot of rule violations are not listed specifically, it's textbook 1.1 since any kind of accusation should be in a ticket rather than out in public causing a scene

We've discussed properly revising the rules to state this, but we do not allow this; if people think it's AI, they should flag it & move on. If people make AI accusations in the comments, report them & we'll handle it.

Personally, I don't feel comfortable jumping to a record without a warning, especially without it officially & explicitly being on the books yet, but we moderators have some discretion in how we handle these; we'll make our own decision based on the context of the situation.

Hey Fuzzy I know exactly which post you're referring to, and I made a post about it as well. It really irks me that they openly made those accusations, and I don't think they'll ever apologize let alone learn their lessons.

It definitely should be plainly stated in the rules imo as this sort of witch hunting can be real harmful, and I say this as someone who absolutely hates AI being used in art.

Unrelated to the topic, but related to what you just said: I wish you were the moderator that handled the complaint against my "tag war" as I was given zero warning, and though it has been almost 2 years now it still stains my record on here. I send an email to see about getting it expunge, but sadly got zero response.

You removed the same tag from a post 16 times, I'm not sure what you really expected

If you had backed down 11 times prior you might have gotten no record, a neutral at most

It would technically already fall under:

  • Disruptive Behavior
    • "Do not make messages with the apparent purpose of upsetting someone. That includes picking fights, baiting arguments, calling names, or making remarks regarding personal grievances, quarrels, or malicious rumors."
    • "Do not purposefully or repeatedly spread false or defamatory information."
  • Harassment
    • "Do not make any messages that call for or may lead to harassment."

Should still have been downgraded by now though since they asked, assuming the behavior hasn't continued.

I never mentioned anything about that, though email is just about the worst spot to reach out for that
https://e621.net/help/rules#disciplinaryactions specifically lists contacting an admin (and links to https://e621.net/help/staff#recorddecay), which never mentions email

Either I pulled the email I sent out from thin air or that page was recently edited because I specifically looked for info on it. Either way thanks for being helpful, and not being condescending.
