Topic: Is there a way to change images posted in a post, and to modify the name of an artist and a character?

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Well, first of all, I have no idea if this is the right place to ask this. If it isn't, I apologize in advance xD

But basically, I'd like to know if there's any way to modify an image in an already uploaded post, like... "update" it, so to speak, without having to delete and repost it :S Also, is there a way to correct the name of an "artist" and a "character" as well, since in the post or wiki editing section, you can only modify the description, not the name of the artist or character...

Basically, some time ago I posted a drawing I made, and I made the mistake of putting my REAL signature inside the image. Even though I know that shouldn't be a problem for someone as insignificant as me, it does make me a little nervous to know that I posted an image with my legal signature on a drawing before using the signature I use for the rest of my drawings... x'D (I wanted to have a distinguishing feature between my own digital drawing and in a notebook, but I ended up realizing how absurd this was, and now I just prefer to use the artistic signature I've had for years...), and it would also be great to know how to change the name of the "tag" in artist and character ✌️(:s)

Replacements would allow it. You should be able to get the replacement feature by asking from staff (unless someone sees this post and gives you the replacement feature rights).

Tags can ve changed through aliases (but if the tag is oly on few posts, you can just change the tags manually).

Hmm, I noticed that you have "unknown artist" tags on images where the description and image say the name. XD

Yes, it is called e621:Replacements and is currently a beta feature.

I'd recommend contacting an admin directly or anybody with the replacements beta permission and asking them to submit a replacement on your behalf.
Alternatively, you could ask an admin to grant you said permission and replace them yourself, but this is really only needed if you plan to replace many posts.

You cannot rename a tag. Once a tag is created, it stays as such.

The only way to "rename" it is to submit a tag alias, which would permanently merge one tag to another (more desired) tag.
However, considering your circumstance, you might want to avoid that since the wikis for the both tags will mention any aliases done to it.

You will have to simply edit the posts and remove & replace the artist/character tags that you do not wish to be associated with. Those tags will be abandoned and left empty.

I would highly recommend contacting an admin about your issue, like I have said above.
They should get things sorted out swiftly, as compared to you needing to jump through multiple hoops to get them replaced.

To the thread OP, do not use unknown_artist on your posts if you already listed them in the description/source.
That is not how the tag is supposed to be used.

I believe you intended to add anonymous_artist instead, which is for artists who want to remain anonymous or do not wish to be associated with their artworks.
In this case, you shouldn't mention who the artist is as well and remove any sources that can be used to identify the artist.

EDIT: Forgot to mention this, but you might want to also go a general reverse image search and find whether anybody reposted your works elsewhere and submit takedowns on those sites, if any. Bots are known to scrape content from e6 and repost them elsewhere, such as on Rule34 sites.

A replacement will keep a thumbnail visible forever if people know where to look for it (in the replacements tab)
It's tiny (150px), so if you just care about it being legible it doesn't matter, but if you want it gone and hidden forever you need a whole new post

Yeah, AlexZanderZXZ, you need to use anonymous artist! Otherwise, someone will follow the (obvious) logical path and restore it instead of leaving it alone. Unknown is basically asking people to source the original image's authorship while 'anonymous' means that they're breaking the rules if they do.

Annoyingly, NSFW images can be almost unsearchable, and even some SFW images. Anything that requires to be logged in on FA or IB is basically invisible, for example. Google has become worse and worse for searching by name of artist or character.
