Fredrick Robert Brennan (February 21, 1994 – January 10, 2026), also known online as Hotwheels and copypaste, was an American software developer and type designer who founded the imageboard website 8chan in 2013, before going on to repudiate it in 2019. Following 8chan's surge in popularity in 2014, largely due to many Gamergate proponents migrating to the site from 4chan, Brennan moved to the Philippines to work for Jim Watkins, who provided hosting services to 8chan and later became the site's owner.

Brennan cut ties with 8chan in 2016 and with Watkins in 2018. Brennan then became an outspoken critic of both 8chan and Watkins, and actively battled to try to take 8chan offline. Brennan was also an outspoken critic of the QAnon conspiracy theory, which centers on 8chan posts by an anonymous figure named "Q", and Brennan researched who may be behind the Q identity.

Brennan died on January 10, 2026.[3]

Ahh! Now I know who you're talking about.

I was on the site back when it first became popular. Very controversial site, but it gave us some nifty nate_(8chan) art!

Didn't realize Hotwheels was a furry. Rest in peace, Fredrick Brennan.

Updated

He was a massive PoS who got troll's remorse. Still a shame he died, but saying "we lost a real one" is a stretch

wew lad rest in pepperoni hotwheels

I was in 8chan /furry/ since it's creation in sept 2014 up to mid/late 2016, when the whole site got so awful and we had to jump ship. those two years /furry/ was such a fun board to be in, I have lots of fond memories of those days, spending the whole day just funposting with anons and discussing stupid stuff haha. really miss those days. It was fun while it lasted.
I didn't know the guy was a furry. He never mentioned it back then (makes sense lol). He barely ever showed up at /furry/ at all, only for tech stuff that required an admin. Now I know why we didn't got bullied off the site lol. Gotta thank him for putting up with us for those 2 years. based af 'till the end.

The tl;dr is that Fredrick Brennan was very anti-QAnon and spoke out against it a lot. Which is genuinely really based! I just didn't really go into detail since I'm mostly focused on mourning his death.

Really good and respectful coverage of him by the QAA podcast, episode named "The Life of Fredrick Brennan feat. Jay Brandstetter (E361)"
