I understand blacklisting is a feature, but it's always annoying going from liking an artist/character, to disliking them because it starts to get pretty absurd after a while that there's hundreds of pieces of them for some not-so-significant reason other than they have surplus cash out the wazoo.
Dean's a character that sadly fell into that category, same as Diane.
Alone in this, or a similar thing others have had?

I think it's weird to complain that there is too much art of a character, especially on a furry archive site. Some characters are just popular. It's not annoying at all, more art is always a good thing. Artists can and should draw whatever they want. And as you said, blacklist exists if you get bored of seeing some specific character.

Not really.
I mean, you can always just look at something else. Very easy to avoid excessive amounts of a character. Even outside of e621.
I'd get it if an artist started shifting away from a theme, format or a style though.

You're annoyed that an artist likes to draw their own OC?
It's funny when there's a lot of a character and then they vanish because the owner asks for a DNP, like uh...what you thought would happen? People will share what they like.
But yeah blacklist does help, still in other places I learned to just tune out and focus on what I like.

Yeah I respect artists but it gets annoying sometimes. Not a character but a tag I used to like is now full of porn and general fetish content.
On one hand, can't fault you for feeling like a little more variety would be nice, on the other, artists can draw whatever they want and some get into grooves of drawing one thing over and over.
It's just how the cookie crumbles, lest you commission them yourself for something different.
I appreciate the respect and maturity ya'll have for my opinion.

I just don't like Dean's portrayal as a character, personally. I don't expect Drako to give a damn, but it would be nice if some more spice was added to keep them from feeling...boring? Samey?
I think it's not just him, but it does happen to other characters I used to like, and gradually fell outta sorts with them, too.
I like the artstyle. It's nice, but the oversaturation is where it gets boring. Too much of one thing can be bad, you know the saying.
Again, it's whatever they wanna do or whoever pays 'em, not my call and whining won't change it.
I draw for myself these days, but I always like to put my characters in situations or scenes that feel fresh and allows for them to expand as a character. I'd personally get bored having them dick down/be dicked down with every character they're ever paired up with and their reactions and such is the same across the whole board. It would start to make them feel flat or pretty unappealing after a while.
I guess I just like experimentation and fresh ideas myself. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and I obviously welcome disagreement, sometimes it's about what pays the bills, too.

I feel admiration when I see an artist frequently drawing their own character, because I just can’t do that lol… My favorite characters change too often and don’t even get a couple of artworks, while some artists are ready to make dozens or even hundreds of pieces with the same character simply because they love them
A perfect example for me is spuydjeks_(character) and hioshiru_(character)
But i understand when, over time, it turns not into love for the character but into constant porn commissions with them, then it probably can indeed become boring :(
As an artist I constantly worry that I draw certain characters too often. I've had people tell me it's no problem, but when one OC has over 200 tagged artworks on this website I do start thinking I might be overdoing it. That being said, you can curate your own experience here.

This is certainly true and also untrue.
As the focused example, 600+ images of one character just bumping uglies with other characters is kinda ridiculous.
I'm sure some artists or commissioners want that kind of attention, but I suppose this is a sign I wouldn't want that for myself as an artist, or for characters I went lengths to make them feel real and complex.
I totally get being in love with a character you worked on to make it as nice/cool/pretty as possible, it just feels like a waste when you do nothing else with them.
It's cool when you get to see MORE of them in other ways.
Myself, I stopped drawing my two main characters for now. I think they have been drawn enough for now, so I'm making a new one to try out some new concepts, an Oriental Snow Owl with a Taopunk aesthetic.
I doubt she'll catch on much, as my main two haven't either, but that's okay, they're really for me to appreciate how they've changed over the years I've had 'em.

My sona has been around for almost 18 years though so it makes sense that I have so much art of her.

Jesus. That's an insane amount even for a character who has been around that long. That's what, 4~5 drawings a day on average?
I'll say there are some characters whose design I don't care for but whose owner/artists have interests that overlap with mine. They rarely bug me on more than a "I wish that red was more natural and less firetruck" level so I can generally appreciate the art regardless.
For the most part though, even with those characters, I start to feel sort of affectionate towards characters I see repeatedly. Like a person who always rides the same bus as you.

There's a couple that fit the latter description, but it often turns into a situation where I actually know that person, or the character in question is treated pretty well with quality art and other content that gives them more substance to feel like I can be more interested in them.

The MLP thing was so crazy. I have a tagging project that requires me to go through really old posts, and when adding stuff to sets I could literally see when MLP exploded in popularity. It was so exceessive that I had to make a set just for the MLP posts.

Judy Hopps and Twilight Sparkles are the most tagged characters on e621 now.

It made me chuckle when I saw that, even after all these years, the upload page lists MLP as "contentious content" along with the likes of scat, rape and gore.

It feels like 90% of the Sans tag is actually Toriel with Sans being a doodle off to the side or something like that. Like don't get me wrong, I adore Toriel, she's a favorite, but I'm

It's one thing if it's cute ship art or something like that but if it's mainly goat boobs alone with a shotty png it's really disappointing. Same thing for Staroba stuff from UTY, love them to pieces but I am more interested in Starlo over Ceroba.
And I agree with the sentiment in not enjoying flavor of the month characters as well as the Zootopia cast, not my jam but I'm getting tired of seeing them.
Now with OCs. IDC, I'm guilty of drawing nothing but my fursona for a while and nobody will stop me lol. That doesn't bother me~
Only time it ever annoys me to see a character cropping up all over the place, is when it's a character I genuinely despise. Usually caused by the character having a personality I hate. But that's just because of my own personal feelings of "Why is this character so popular, they're awful, aaaargh!" I don't voice that kind of thing out loud/in comments, though. I just distance myself from it and hope the fad wears off soon. XD

Kinda the same.I don't care how pretty or well designed the character is if their personality just annoys me or bores me.

Ok, that I really do hate; when the character you're actually searching for almost exclusively an accessory to a far more popular character. Hell, Toriel doesn't even fill this role with Sans alone - such is the curse of the long-suffering Asgore fan, & the pain is worse when you prefer him in a more assertive, dominant role.

Wow, someone is talking about UTY in here! A lot of the Staroba you're probably seeing is mostly because of one guy commissioning them and posting them here. Before that there was barely any Starlo x Ceroba art. It isn't the case that there is a sudden influx in the ship's popularity, and I think people here still prefer Ceroba with a self-insert anonymous male over Starlo anyway
You probably won't find much content here dedicated to Sans or Starlo since they're not furries. Rule 34 is probably the better place for them lol (also see the number of posts for Tenna here vs on r34)

Ooh, I see I see! I thought it was just general people preferring canonXcanon over canonXoc.
Also that's true, I just figured there would be some arts since they're still technically allowed here. I don't really check R34 much since I don't have an account there anyways and at least on here I have my blacklist so I can block out things I don't wanna see.
