These feel a little too loose to imply politics to me. They can often be, but I don't think they always are. For example, if the democrat_donkey appears on some minor background element in an image would result in the post being tagged politics, even if the post isn't saying anything political. Tags like democrat, republican, and libertarian also feel too close to TWYK, that it could be used to tag characters' or the artist's party affiliation irrespective of what's actually depicted.

Definitionally, you're not wrong, but I don't like the idea of 50% of the politics tag immediately becoming nazi stuff. I think it's sensible to not over-implicate that tag. I think we'll have better results if we leave the application of the "politics" tag to the judgement of users.

Then we should remove the politics implication from communism, israeli-palestinian_conflict, jfk_assassination, patriotism, & russo-ukrainian_war

Also, the implication would only make politics at most 33% nazi stuff and that would only be if nothing is currently tagged nasi and politics

The definition for the politics tag is "Posts having content that is inherently political in nature."

Aside from communism (which I would agree shouldn't imply politics), and to a degree patriotism (does a character showing pride for a fictional state in a fictional setting in a fictional story, in a way that's not directly referencing real-world political events, count for the politics tag?), the remaining you list there are inherently political events. In contrast, depicting a republican is not "inherently political in nature", nor is a depiction of the libertarian porcupine being "inherently political in nature" (any more than any other image is, at any rate). These implications would broaden the politics tag well beyond its current definition and significantly reduce its utility.

The purpose of the politics tag is to help people avoid depictions of real-world politics or political events. Is
post #3872
the kind of thing you think people want to avoid by blacklisting politics? The question isn't whether these things can be political, or even if they're political the majority of the time they're depicted, but whether these things being depicted on a post means the post is "inherently political in nature" 100% of the time. An implication must always be valid with no exceptions.

To add to this, I struggle to find a single use of the anarchy symbol that I think could reasonably be called political.

create implication anarchy_symbol (465) -> anarchy (5)
create alias anarchy (5) -> anarchism (21)

All other issues aside, if you're aliasing anarchy to anarchism, you should instead be implying anarchy_symbol to anarchism.

I'm also wondering if "democrat", "republican" and "green party" are currently too vague as tags, both due to Watsit's concerns, and also considering most Western nations have their own version of at least one of these parties.

You're right about 33% being closer to the mark, but that's still a lot of extreme images flowing into a tag with a more general application. I still agree that everything we're discussing here is "politics" if we define "politics" broadly, but I also still think it's sensible to not over-implicate that tag. I think users can judge when an image as a whole is clearly "political" - whether as a satire / parody, or expressing a political point of view of some kind.

I agree it would be fair to un-implicate "Communism" to be more-or-less consistent in our approach here. I don't have a strong point of view on the other current implications, but I will point out that an event like the "jfk_assassination" seems more "cultural" than "political" to me.

You're right, I'll edit that, thanks for pointing that out
