Topic: How do you search and blacklist?

Posted under General

I've found that when I search I tend to search more broadly. Like instead of 'wolf' I'll say 'canid.' Meanwhile I'll try to get as specific as possible when trying to exclude terms. Search with a cleaver, blacklist with a scalpel.

So how do you search?

Honestly my blacklist is 99% just there to let me toggle to hide stuff I'm not interested in during my searches. I leave it mostly off except a few things that stay on always (fluffy pony, blacklisted artists, and all the political-type stuff I will never enjoy seeing).

As far as my actual searches, it depends on what I'm looking for specifically. I wanted to see some pose references for a new drawing of an OC who has a very long body, so I did the search eastern_dragon feral ~floating ~flying ~midair -anthro rating:s. Sometimes I want a very specific type of character, or to see if such a character has even been represented on e6. I like to search by specific rating as well.

But a lot of the time I just search a single tag like autofootjob and browse the results with my blacklist as activated as I want it to be. It helps 'cause I have a tendency to open every result on the page in a new tab to actually see the art in detail (I'm sure my computer is fine with this)

I just identify the tag I want to include on my blacklist, and then add it.

I don't know if it's me, but the blacklist section used to include an autofill drop box to check that I'm including the right tag.
