The site is not still going through it, and it's not purging underage art in general.

Still I wasn't happy on how it was handled and we don't have the reasons why it was done in a rush, if we ever will know someday...

I mean, that happens every day. Teens of every generation aren't known for their foresight and planning.
I'm not fact-checking when these occurred, but I think they're all in recent years:
- Young human(oid) content purged
- Did e6ai.net (this site, but for AI stuff to keep it away from here) exist yet? At any rate, it's basically unaffiliated with this site's moderation team and operates independently
- Really cool April Fool's Day thingy where we had to draw our fursona to access the site https://e621.net/static/furid
- Pussy renamed to vulva for the sake of less offensive language
- I think there's some way to search (A or B) and (X or Y) now, but I've never actually used it
- Some guy compromised a bajillion accounts and made tens of thousands of spam forum threads, but the Mods did a really good job cleaning it up quickly as if nothing happened
- Pride flag logo
- New uploading guideline recently about posts with pro-pedophilia iconography. It affected very few posts, and you can probably safely ignore it
- Lots of other stuff I'm probably forgetting...

If you mean grouped searches, yeah, that's relatively new, but we've had global OR searches for awhile. We've also started making changelogs in forum topic #13631 if OP's interested in feature changes.
...& yeah, this is a mature site; we've been banning minors since forever ago.

I was unaware that there was a Bans, Feedback and even a forums section to this site until I made this account. Ever since summer last year, I had been browsing the bans section, going back at least two years prior. It's interesting to see how unhinged some users get. Most were from people attempting a ban evasion by making a new account.
I still check the list every day lol
