The Macho Brace (Japanese: きょうせいギプス Coercive Cast), also known as The Strength Intensifier is a held item introduced in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire. It doubles all effort values gained by the holder during a battle at the cost of reducing speed.
The Macho Brace is typically depicted as two rings connected by a series of springs-like chords. The springs are designed to restrict a Pokémon's movements to intensify their physical training.
The concept seems to be based on A.J.'s harnesses from the 8th episode of the Anime series. When worn by the uninitiated, it causes a Pokémon's body to be forced to curl up into a ball until they are strong enough to pull their limbs away from their body to train. When removed after acclimation, the user's movement speed, strength, and durability are much higher without the restraints.
