I don't think My Little Pony got particularly popular over there either, to be fair.

fluffy pony was kind of a micro counter-cultural movement within/adjacent to the brony community. so, without being either being in the community or existing in the same spaces as said community (4chan) you likely weren't going to get brought into the the sub-community either.
