might be different per state (or possibly even by school district). places where the Mexican-American population is smaller might be different, but the Spanish classes I took in high school at least were majorly focused on the Latin American dialect of the language.

That's good to hear. I watch tiktok clips complaining about how school Spanish is completely useless when they travel to Latin America. (Obviously the complaints are for entertainment/comedy tho...)
