By the vast majority of the characters out there being unique in their own way, as well as differentiating opinions about what is to be considered unique (give a fox a peculiar type of glasses and et voila, unique), I'd say this tag is too inconsistent.
A disambiguation page wouldn't do good either.
While we're on it, what about the amazing tag? Kind of the same story.

Not entirely, in my opinion.
Just like cute, it is subjective. But both of those tags do have significance. Cute is used for an image that one would easily swoon over, and it goes hand in hand with fluffy, chibi, hug, etc.
Amazing appears to best fit images that have an INSANE level of detail.

well at least it should be cleaned up because its littered with things that are really not that amazing.

We have:
It's a bit of a gray area. Amazing itself hasn't got a clear direction for tagging, as opinions between users can vary about what is to be considered amazing.
This is indeed some amazing art...
...but also posts like these are tagged with amazing (not to sound degrading towards the content of the example).
We could maybe use some more tags that depict what is so particularly amazing.
Even then, I don't see a use to it.
900+ posts tagged with it. Perhaps if we reshape the Wiki somewhat, about what makes something "amazing."

+1 to OP
amazing probably just needs a small cleanup. It gets tagged for a lot of things due to all the aliases it has.

Amazing is aliased with epic, badass, etc, which are all kind of subjective. And it also gets tagged for 'amazing level of detail'.
That's partly because of the tag names. We have the detailed and detailed_background tag pair, and then there's amazing and amazing_background...
It should be split. Badass under one tag (if that's even worth keeping), and amazing detail under an another.
