The bulk update request #9723 is pending approval.

create implication sea_turtle (251) -> aquatic (173603)
create implication sea_snake (104) -> aquatic (173603)
create implication marine_iguana (37) -> aquatic (173603)
create implication sea_otter (555) -> aquatic (173603)
create alias marine_reptile (9) -> aquatic (173603)

Reason: Ichthyosaur and plesiosaur imply marine, but none of our living marine reptiles do!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_reptile#Extant_groups

I think sea turtle and sea snake are pretty inarguable, and the marine iguana's lifestyle seems pretty similar to pinnipeds (which do imply marine) in terms of amount of time spent on land. However I have excluded the American and saltwater crocodiles, which I feel are marine reptiles in the same way the polar bear is a marine mammal.

(I've also thrown in the sea otter for marine: "Although it can walk on land, the sea otter is capable of living exclusively in the ocean.")

Marine reptile and marine mammal could be umbrella tags, but I think they're unneccessary, let me know if you disagree.

I wonder if we should have a tag for more amphibious/semi-aquatic animals. although that'd probably be a pretty large group and I'm not sure where exactly the line'd be drawn.

I think the marine mammal tag is a good idea, it's worthwhile to differentiate them from the likes of fish as well as from other mammals. (Also, it's a useful umbrella tag for fictional species too)

The bulk update request #13200 is pending approval.

create implication marine_mammal (80) -> marine (8)
create implication marine_mammal (80) -> mammal (4120984)
create alias cetecean (10) -> cetacean (18306)
create implication cetacean (18306) -> marine_mammal (80)
create implication pinniped (7252) -> marine_mammal (80)

Reason: In line with my above suggestion.
Also be aware that the marine tag is also applicable to freshwater life, not just ocean.

Now that the marine - aquatic alias has been flipped to make everything aquatic [see topic #61941 & topic #62038] this suggestion could use some reworking, like maybe also rename marine_mammal to be aquatic_mammal instead, and then to make aquatic the tag to imply it all to, etc.

ADDED NOTE: I did edit the OP's suggestion, initially just to remove aliasing away marine_mammal because it is still in discussion to possibly be kept. But it wouldn't let me save that without changing all the marine into aquatic as well. So those adjustments have also been made to the way it was written for technical reasons, even though the content of the suggestion largely remains unaltered.
