Topic: Is there a purpose to the "narrative" tag?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Just came across the narrative tag. It appears to be used for posts containing a story and posts that are part of a series. Does this have a legitimate purpose, or should we remove it?

I don't think it's a useful tag. It's not particularly popular either (1/3rd of the uses are a single comic), so a disambiguation might not be warranted. Can we just alias it to story?

I find the story tag to be too general to be useful, myself. I don't see practical value in either tag. There is an inherent "story" and "narrative" in most art people create. [That's just my idiosyncratic point of view, though. If people want a tag for this, let's have one tag, not two.]

While I didn't mention it, I only learned about the story tag while writing the comment above, and I was thinking the same thing.

This sounds like comic but worse (except not some comics), which is just even weirder
I'd opt for invalidating both

I could see story being useful for images that have a written story in them, something like
post #1913148
But with the tag being much broader and used anywhere a narrative can be inferred (in the image or in the description), it does seem too vague to be useful and a better tag name can be used for written stories in an image.

something that's just like text_block could work if we didn't have to consider narrated audio.

I personally don't want to ditch story entirely; there's too many instances where story_in_description & story_at_source fail to cover the existence of narrative context. I'd argue this should be an umbrella tag for all posts with additional narrative context beyond just the TWYS visual content, be it in additional text in the image or supplementary material, covering stuff like comic, story_in_description, & story_at_source.

...that said, I'm 100% in favor of aliasing narrative to story; this seems like a synonym tag that people only use because they're unaware of a preexisting tag. 52 posts using it seems just about right for that to be the explanation.
