Topic: Invalidating permanent tag

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #13069 is pending approval.

create alias perma (72) -> permanent_(disambiguation) (0)
create alias permanent (2008) -> permanent_(disambiguation) (0)
change category permanent_(disambiguation) (0) -> invalid

Reason: Based on a few suggestions from the original topic #61573, besides it would be better/clearer to use permanent_xyz instead

edit: better wording

BURs can't alias into a tag that's being aliased, it will fails because either a) the first line runs, then the second line, causing it to fail because BURs don't move transitives (existing aliases/implications) and can't alias tags with transitives or b) the second line runs, then the first, and it fails because you're trying to alias into an aliased tag, or better yet c) both run at the same time and everything explodes

I’ve recently changed it, I even reject my original request just in case. Let me know if it’s fixed now

I think permanent could still have value as an umbrella tag for future permanent_* tags. People who are squicked by it will likely want to blacklist all permanence content.

I wouldn't mind moving all of the posts above to a permanent_(kink) tag and using that as an umbrella tag if people want it.

The uses for "permanent" are too varied to collect under a single tag, IMO. Not all "permanent" things are necessarily kink-related, for instance, and whether or not certain things are a kink can be dependent on the person viewing it. Something like

if the petrification was permanent, that would be permanent_transformation, but calling/tagging it permanent_(kink) wouldn't really be appropriate. Of course, how you'd know it's permanent is the topic at issue in the other thread...

To be fair, the definition of "a character stuck in a situation with no apparent way of leaving it" does seem solid and the only problem I had with the tag is the vague naming.
I think a properly renamed tag could be used to cover the above definition.

As for an umbrella tag that could adequately cover all permanent scenarios, that will be up for debate.

A related tag I could see being disambiguated is permanent_chastity_device
Its wiki says that

[...] chastity can be considered permanent if at least one of these three things is true:
1. The permanence of chastity is mentioned through dialogue
2. A key is either visibly destroyed, or in the process of being destroyed
3. The device itself is visibly unremovable. For example, a keyhole is sealed.

But dialogue usually isn't relevant for tags, 2. is key_disposal or broken_key and 3. is sealed_chastity_device. Additionally I think chastity_device + infinity_symbol can cover other posts that are aiming for this kind of theme.

Not only does permanent_chastity_device seems like a superfluous tag but it is also frequently used in posts that have nothing that could visually indicate any permanent condition:
