Topic: What to do about this particular OC stealing situation?

Posted under Art Talk

Yea okay so I'm usually on the side of "just dont look at it even if its your own oc" but this particular case I am going to explain is not hypothetical and truely needs a solution.

There is this person who requents the OC drawthread general on 4chan's /trash/ board who consistently, for YEARS, requested artwork of a particular person's characters in involentary bondage situations. Now this causes problems not just for the owner of the OC, clearly, as they get all of the artwork made of their characters requested by this oc theif taken down, but the artists delivering such art as well as damage any sort of welcoming presence for new contributing artists on the OC drawthread general board.

Another thing I want to reiterate is that this creep has been doing it for literally years and is manipulating the generousity of artists who come to the thread to gift art into what has legitamately become harassment for the true OCs owner. Artists who fall for this theif's stupid antics get their work taken down, and are soured from ever returning or continueing to contribute to the drawthreads, and the threads themselves constantly get filled with people talking about it and trying to warn artists, just for it to still happen anyway. This theif doesnt only frequent the 4chan drawthread but other free request places on X and reddit too.

I have not mentioned any names to avoid any extra heat for the oc owner

I come here looking for solutions, an open discussion on how to solve this issue. I am not directly affected by this situation else than being just another artist that drew a request for this loser just for it to be taken down everywhere.

you can _try_ to get the person banned for impersonation, maybe, depending on the platform. but beyond that, really the best you can do is let people know before taking the requests.

The character owner can file a takedown if an art piece he doesn't like gets uploaded here. The staff can also throw the ban hammer if a single person knowingly or repeatedly uploads them.

Other than that, there isn't really much you can do outside of warning people since he's clearly persistent. Short of sending a cease and desist for the harassment, but that's obviously legally complicated.

Please note that we will only honor art removal requests from the following parties:

Legal copyright holder of the artwork
Legal copyright holder of the character(s)
The commissioner(s) of the artwork

Please consult the guide below for further information regarding when it's acceptable to submit a takedown request and when it's not.

You SHOULD submit a takedown request if you are one of the following:

Artist wanting their own artwork removed.
Character owner wanting artwork featuring their character removed.
A commissioner who has paid for the artwork in question.
Publisher wanting a publication or excerpts of a publication removed. Please note that these takedowns can potentially be a little trickier to handle properly, and so communication with a site admin will likely be needed after submitting the takedown request.

Anon from the OC Drawthread here who found this. The thing is, such warnings have been put in place ever since it was found out, and it still doesn't really do anything. /trash/'s moderation team is known for being... Abysmal, to say the least, with the only thing they really delete being anything illegal. (And even then, it takes a few hours.)

I wish there was some way to put a public notice that if you fufill this person's requests youre contributing to ongoing harassment of an individual.

Yea ths problem is that the artists get really discouraged from contributing to the drawthreads after thier art gets taken down, sometimes the artists never really get to know why. I had to join a hidden discord and ask around to find out why my sketch was taken down.

With subreddits mods CAN have automated messages posted and pinned to threads. I know that this isn't the only incident like this. A pinned message could be a list or a link to a list of known problematic requests.
