Not sad for Chara. Asriel on the other hand is going through a lot of guilt that he knows he can't say anything about or Chara died for nothing, and he has no idea he's been guilt tripped into it in the first place and even now his grieving is all part of the plan. People with a lot of emotional empathy are easy to manipulate. We would do anything to make amends. Even if it isn't our fault. Because we won't know it isn't.

Let us also not forget poor Asgore and poor Toriel, who are probably offscreen feeling like collapsing right now because of the raw heartbreak.

Absolutely. You hear what Asgore says constantly, and I wouldn't be surprised if losing Asriel later actually resulted in him saying to himself "This is all just a bad dream." Especially when you consider they were close enough that Asriel, whose fighting style is based entirely on what he thinks is cool, uses their attacks.

A bit of a belated comment here, but... for something this emotional, I'd like to point out that the piece has some high-quality artwork with talented details. Well done.
