Description
"This rare type of Ariados resides only in the deepest most remote parts of jungles, preying solely upon human girls that are young and shapely enough to bear their offspring. Only naive, inexperienced trainers wander into their habitat to be captured and turned into unwilling broodmares. These girls are never seen again, taken to secluded lairs where they are forcibly fed and sustained to birth Pokémon for the rest of their lives."

MemberI'd say probably yes. It has one ovipositor inside her anus, and there isn't any difference between male and female digestive system. So if the intestines are a decent enough place to lay eggs, the Ariados probably won't have any gender preferences or anything like that. That means, men are most likely viable too, probably don't even need to act or look girly or anything (so even I could be a potential "victim" yay). One possible issue could be that maybe the Ariados always has to push eggs from both ovipositors simultaneously. If that is the case, then of course they would prefer girls because with guys half their eggs would be wasted. But that issue can easily be resolved if the Ariados just captures two guys and then uses both of them simultaneously. A little less convenient than just getting a single girl but I don't see any reason why Ariados would specifically avoid guys. Think of it as a snack that you kinda like but it's not like your absolute perfect favorite thing to eat or anything like that. You probably wouldn't go out specifically to buy one, but if you're already in the shop buying groceries and you see it on the shelves, no reason to not grab it either. At least that's the most logical theory I can come up with.

MemberBecause for an arboreal animal, dropping things on the ground can attract predators, and in this case perhaps tip off other humans investigating her disappearance, who'd have a harder time spotting a hat in a tree than one on the ground. Probably not the artist's actual reasoning but I think it works.
