24 February: Just as a heads up, we've updated our uploading guidelines to include a new entry. This was added to address a string of bad faith content that was exploiting our very permissive content standards.

MemberOk now i'm a little sad for putting my Pokemon in balls i wish i could just let them all out and follow me around.
yugijak
MemberIt's interesting to see a different perspective.
While the idea is pokemon use balls as a sort of stasis area and mobile home, allowing them to indulge in their rabid desire for battle (as they all seek to grow stronger) I don't think it outside the realm of possibility not all pokemon seek or accel at battle.
It's actually very likely if pokemon are as varied as they are supposedly meant to be it wouldn't shock me if there are some who have an innate lack of desire for combat.

Memberit hurt i know, id be the type of trainer to have my pokemon out of theirs balls when ever possible
shame not all the games have that concept of course it would be a noob move to do thag during some competitive league or something

MemberExcellence comes at a cost, yes. Just having the skill isn't enough, they'd need the fighting spirit too... I'm as certain as I can be about a fictional species that there are pokémon who prefer not to fight.
Doing that in a league might lead to disqualification if it was anything but accidental.

MemberI'm NOT gonna participate in the debate upwards (because it would take too much time) but can we take a moment to notice that there is Brendan?
TheFloofyOne
MemberCan we take a moment to appreciate the dead, “so I heard you like mudkips” meme that was just referenced?

MemberYea i agree there, it would be nice to see more pokemon not really liking the idea of battling more lets say pokemon that like the beauty contest side of pokemon i think that would be a nice change to pokemon as we see them now.
Ferwolf99
Memberthought I was the only one who noticed it based of the debate going on up there

MemberI know this is an old thread, but I have to point out, in the manga, especially the anime, and even the games especially more recently, this is not the case: we are constantly seeing Pokémon outside of pokeballs, even letting themselves out when something interesting is happening. I'd even say it's well established canon, if you consider Nintendo's official short films to be pure statements of canon, that humans and pokemon live in harmony, with the pokemon coming and going or staying to live with you if you make them a space they like, and the trainer thing is just a sports subculture where everyone consents to be there.
Yeah, I can see this fitting, where an ignorant human hatches a pokemon and immediately gives them away to a stranger to be combat-trained in their infancy, and the pokemon has an understandable resentment for the cruel act, but it's not supposed to be the norm.
