MemberActually got to talk with the writer/commissioner of the piece about this, English isn't their first language, so their dialogue ended up as.. this. Which I won't really try to deny it's a bit weird but I'd cut them some slack.
Edit: this is also why the sex part seemed rushed according to them, poor communication of the actual timeframe of the relationship.
