24 February: Just as a heads up, we've updated our uploading guidelines to include a new entry. This was added to address a string of bad faith content that was exploiting our very permissive content standards.

MemberAm I to understand that is a literal carton of egg contents?!
Duracell
MemberYep! It's a thing you can buy in real life, too. Typically you buy 'em for use as a cooking ingredient, since any number of recipes use excess or only egg whites or yolks and it's both easier and more efficient to get only what you need instead of wasting part of a full egg. You can also, of course, buy just the whole thing pre-scrambled, as seen here. They're usually referred to as some variant of "liquid egg" to discern it from "whole eggs."
Llollt
MemberFor that matter, they're used in big kitchens where you don't just need to make 1 or 2 eggs at a time.

MemberI'm from The Netherlands. I can get a bottle of egg whites, or egg yolk at my local supermarket. I'd really have to look for it though because who the fuck would buy that when you can just buy a carton of eggs for a fraction of the price.
Duracell
MemberAs Llollt said, this is usually something that commercial kitchens like restaurants need and buy more than individuals for their home kitchens. They'll go through ENORMOUS amounts of eggs per day, and buying liquid eggs instead of whole both allows them to buy bulk and also ensures consistency, which is almost more important to a commercial kitchen than quality.
Shatari
MemberThe price can vary pretty wildly depending on where you live. It's really expensive to buy them where I live now, but the town where I went to college sold them for about the same price as normal eggs, so I bought small cartons of them to use for breakfast. I had a tiny little fridge in my apartment, so it was way easier to buy a small carton of 4 pre-scrambled eggs than it was to try and fit a carton of eggs in the fridge.

MemberAmerican here. A carton of whole eggs is just about the same price. Local price (i just looked it up) $4 for a dozen whole eggs, $4.75 for the scrambled (liquid eggs). I consider it worth 75 cents to not have to scramble them myself, and dirty up another bowl and whisk, when scrabled is the only way i eat my eggs.

MemberConvenience is nice and all, but you have to deal with the perspective of the manufacturer possibly putting additives into it in the process.
