*the cavern fills with light as yuki creates a floating blue orb in the air above her paw using her fox magic. Shadow blinks, her eyes adjusting to the sudden change in brightness. “Are you sure this is the way to the treasure?” She asks and glances around. “I feel like we’re lost.” Yuki scoffs and waves her free paw dismissively. “Of course I’m sure. Have I ever steered you wrong?” “Yes,” shadow replies. “Several times.” “Hmph. Well if you don’t believe me then you can find the treasure on your own.” Shadow rolls her eyes and follows yuki down the tunnel. “It’s just that we’ve been down here for hours and we still haven’t found anything. I’m starting to think that ‘hot tip’ you got was bogus.” Yuki turns, looking offended. “Ah, my tips are always good. I am an excellent judge of character I’ll have you know. That weasel was a perfect gentleman.” Shadow raises an eyebrow. She can never tell if yuki is serious or not. “Well if we don’t find anything soon I’m out of here.” “Keep your robes on, I’m sure we’ll-“ yuki stops suddenly with a yelp. “What, what is it?” Shadow rushes over and stops next to her, stopping at the edge of a sharp drop onto a large open space beyond the tunnel filled with a large blue gelatinous mass covering the walls and ceiling. “Whoa…” shadow mutters. “What the heck is this place?” Yuki looks all around at the blue substance. “Beats me. But uh, is it just me or is that stuff moving?” Shadow looks up and sees the blue ooze rippling and squirming around. “Ick! This place gives me the creeps… maybe we should turn back? I’m really starting to think this supposed treasure isn’t worth it.” Yuki gasps. “You’re not seriously gonna wuss out on me, are you? Come on, this isn’t any worse than anything we’ve faced before. We just gotta figure a way over this weird ooze and get to the other side of the room. Heck, I bet this is some kind of trap to protect the treasure, which means we’ve gotta be close!” Shadow purses her lips. “I don’t know…” the ooze makes a gurgling sound, making shadow jump. “Eep! Look, there’s something coming out of it! It looks like… tentacles?” Long tendrils sprout from the bubbling mass, feeling through the air for something to grab. “I think it knows we’re here. It must be searching for us. We’re on the right track, I just know it!” Yuki exclaims with excitement. “Maybe if we distract it somehow we can sneak over to the other end of the cave and press on.” She looks around the room, spotting some rock formations sprouting from the ground out from under the ooze.*
*yuki glances down at the ooze. Very carefully she bends down, gently poking it with her finger. The gelatinous mass wriggles and squirms. A small tendril appears where she poked it and reaches out, feeling around the air slowly. It doesn’t seem hostile, more curious. “Hmm…” yuki looks up at shadow who is looking around the room. She smirks, getting an idea. “I think I’ve got a plan.” She says, standing back up. Shadow tilts her head. “What is it?” “Simple really. We distract the ooze and hop across those rocks over there.” Yuki points at them and shadow rolls her eyes. “Alright, how do we distract it then?” “Oh, you know…” she grins and gives shadow a little push. She yelps, her arms flailing as she tries to regain her balance. Unable to compose herself, shadow falls back, tumbling through the air and landing back first into the ooze. It cushions her fall and her arms and legs slowly sink into it. “Ahhh, h-hey, oh no, it’s gonna- g-gonna…” tentacles emerge all around her. “Hey, it’s not killing me?” “Yuki laughs. “Of course not. I wouldn’t throw you into something dangerous. Give me a little credit.” Shadow growls. “That doesn’t mean you throw me in to… wait… am I the distraction?” Yuki giggles. “Yup! I’ll get you out as soon as I get across. Good luck!” Shadow grunts and struggles. She yanks and tugs, trying to get her limbs free but the ooze keeps her stuck firmly in place. “H-hey! Get back here!” She yelps again as more tendrils surround her. “H-hurry!” As nervous as shadow felt, she could tell the tentacles didn’t mean her any harm. They brush up against her body gently, poking and prodding her curiously. She feels them touching her through her adventurer’s robes, the tentacles tugging at the fringes and dragging them up her thighs. “S-sis? They’re getting kind of touchy feely… please hurry!” Yuki hops to the first pillar, stumbling and balancing on the narrow footing. “Working on it! Just keep them busy!” Shadow whines. She turns and takes one more look back, sighing once more, a little more melancholy this time. “Thanks…” she mutters to herself. “I’ll be back someday…” she turns again and calls ahead, jogging behind her sister. “Wait for me!”*
