You always see people mentioning this, but I always wonder how it would actually feel in practice; I don't think it would necessarily have to be so terrible. I'm sure people have had a pet cat lick their finger or something and not tear their skin off or really feel like anything but a slightly rougher tongue.

I mean, I imagine it would largely depend on the density (and therefore individual size) of the barbs - after a certain point it's probably not salvageable - but I would also expect there to be some difference in how the "operator" of said tongue chooses to apply it. Maybe the barbs aren't always so stiff? Maybe they contract their tongue muscle in a certain way to stand the barbs "on end" when doing the whole meat-off-the-bones thing, and could choose not to do so?

If it helps, nowhere is it mentioned that Charr lick themselves (to my knowledge). Similar to other fictional feline races; if they have thumbs, they don't need the tongue-hooks to groom, they can just do it like anyone else.

So, I personally stand by the head-canon that they don't have sandpaper tongues. We never see them lick themselves, we never hear about them licking themselves, etc. As far as I'm concerned, that tongue just feels like any other tongue... Just 10x heavier coming from large breasts like that. ;)
