I mean, we already had fluffy satyrs. I think the main reasons they didn't take off was that the booru meta "silly" lore was "Aichi fucked a fluffy", and the hard lore was usually "Hasbio is just sellin' kids, now".
in concept the company that's selling mildly sapient creatures as pets starting to sell replacement children isn't too far of an idea, it's also, like, extremely passé. it's pretty much just retreading 2/3rds of AI/robot stories that have come out of Hollywood. and there just wasn't really anything to latch onto to explore that was really unique to the setting.
