Apparently I made this thread focused on this one guy now...

I actually have a really, really old account here that I lost access to, way back when. Wonder what I can do about that?

Edit: Ok not that old. But it's been some years.

You probably don't get banned for accounts you no longer have access to.
I remember the site changelog saying admins can now see users' last log-in time
I doubt admins will ban you for merely having an alt if you don't log in... but that's my guess and I'm not the staff.

Alts aren’t against the rules as long as they aren’t used to vote cheat or get around restrictions!

Think I could get it deleted or migrated to this one somehow? Probably not but I feel it's worth asking.

Admins deleting accounts is technically possible now but there isn't really a reason to do that, and there is no kind of migration process

Damn. Might go about the former some time. Thanks for the info, Don.

I've seen on the 'delete account' section of the settings page saying you need to know your log in info and password as admins would be unable to access it for you. So if you can't remember your password to delete your account, you're SOL

I promise you, it's really not that much space. A single "deleted" post almost certainly takes up more space.

In any case, you can contact an admin if you decide to do something about that at some point.

Well now you have me pondering the logisticals of the site, like how favorites are stored. Topic for another time though.

It's stored as a postgres table, there's also some data on posts, it's also stored in an elasticsearch index

At most each of these is a few dozen bytes, though with the 1.2 billion favorites we have, that's likely at least 60+ gigabytes in favorites alone

Also a deleted post theoretically takes up more space because the deletion reason, post events, flags, etc each usually don't exist for posts that haven't been deleted

[Cool Logisticals]

Mother of god. That's so much more efficient than I initially thought. I did figure it would use such a flexible referencing system after some thought, though.

Interesting...

I saw that too. I'm guessing it's an "I'm addicted to this site, plz help me get off of it" situation, and the Mods are happy to oblige, rather than saying "No! Please say slurs in the comments first, so we have a proper reason to ban you!". Let's be real, if that's what happened, they'll be back.

If that's the case, I had the same idea. I wanted to stop posting here but I was (and am) too addicted to this site.
